Description:

No matter where you work you are likely to encounter children during the course of your normal working activities. You are in a unique position to be able to observe signs of abuse or neglect, or changes in behaviour which may indicate a child may be being abused or neglected. All those working with children and young people should make sure that they are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect, that they question the behaviours, not taking everything they are told at face value.

Please note that if you are booking from Education Services or from outside the Boroughs of Richmond and Kingston there will be a booking fee of £80

This course is for staff and volunteers in regular contact or who have a period of intense but irregular contact with children and young people and/or parents/carers including all health clinical staff, who may be in a position to identify concerns about maltreatment.

  Aim:

The course will enable delegates to recognise the signs of child abuse by focusing on examples, including the behavioural and physical indicators. A practical approach will be taken to define the responsibility of organisations and individuals in relation to handling a disclosure of abuse by children, and the subsequent recording and reporting of the disclosure.

  Learning Outcomes:

 This course will enable participants to:

• Identify laws and guidance relating to safeguarding children
• Understand what children and young people want and need to feel safe
• Identify some of the main forms, signs and effects of abuse with reference to child developmental stages
• Be able to demonstrate their skills in effective collaboration between interagency to achieve a suitable outcome for the child and family members
• Clear understanding of own and colleagues roles, responsibilities and professional boundaries

  Minimum Requirements:

Participants must have completed Safeguarding Children Basic Awareness (Level 1) training prior to undertaking this course.
